Boudoir photography is not your typical Jessops or Sainsburys photo session. And it shouldn’t be compared to it either. While some may think boudoir is a little risque, it’s really not. It’s an intimate and private method of expression. You are in various stages of undress during the shoot and, as such, it is a special and intimate style of photography that requires intricate attention to detail to give the subject a very special experience. As well as memories both timeless and classic they can be proud of for years to come.
Why is Boudoir expensive? This is one of the most common questions we get asked so I thought I would spend a bit of time on it today. The price of a session is the primary reason that many potential clients get sticker shock and run in the opposite direction in search of a cheaper photographer. In these instances, I have to ask what are you comparing it to? You are not booking a standard photo experience here and this is not some amateur’s side hustle, boudoir is deeply personal. There needs to be a level of trust between the client and the studio and it needs to be personal. Boudoir connects the client with themselves on a deeply personal level and celebrates the individual in a way that they may have ignored or even forgotten about over many years of other responsibilities and commitments. You are investing in yourself in a way that will pay for itself many times over just in the confidence boost you get from a session with Burford Studio.
To be absolutely honest – You get what you pay for. If you are want to have a fine dining experience you don’t go for fast food or skimp on the wine — you pay for quality and, while everyone loves a bargain there are some areas where shopping around does not pay off. We have had to do quite a few sessions where the client has had a ‘value’ session to keep the cost down and hated the session or the results (and generally both). Looking on the web you’ll find ‘boudoir photographers’ offering unbelievable deals but, as they say, it sounds too good to be true – it is! You get what you pay for in the quality of the photography, in the guidance, and the experience. Again, you get what you pay for.
No matter your size, age, or demographic you deserve to feel amazing and to have an amazing experience and the value you place on that experience is personal to you. People will find a reason that they need to spend £800 on the latest Apple or Samsung phone but will have issues with investing in a professional, high-quality boudoir session. How long does a phone last? 3 years or so? Our memories will last you forever and will always be there to look back on.
So, you really do get what you pay for in life. While some things are available on a budget, moments of self-care and love should be a Roll Royce experience. A world-class boudoir photography experience is definitely the latter.
